(also the part where there are way too many pages of me talking is going to be fixed in the next issue, this is because this is a part of my term assignment — my ~praxis project~ — for my final women’s studies course. i feel like actually a lot of the goals are self-explanatory though so definitely future issues will be way more just about making stuff)

Some really awesome hip-hop coming out of Chicago loaded with on-point political commentary. I can’t emphasize how enthralled I am by this album.

At the very least, you want to listen to the tracks Outlaw Culture which talks about how political movements are catalyzed by marginalization. It’s tied together with an equally muscular and aggressive beat and hook. As they say in the song, it was written as a complement to Malcom X’s By Any Means. 

In their own words:
“We wanted to have a song that covered all the aspects of the working class; and folks of color, sisters, and queer folks that are overlooked within the movement but who are imperative to the movement.” 

PS - if you know someone who continually miscategorizes hip-hop as particularly anti-feminist, homophobic, or some other bullshit that is more indicative of their lack of familiarity of hip-hop, you should make them to listen to this.
